Acoustic panel comparisons
Recycled PET felt is not the right answer for every room. These pages compare it honestly against the alternatives — including where PET felt loses.
Recycled PET Felt vs Wood Slat Acoustic Panels
Recycled PET felt panels are soft, light and self-finished, while wood slat panels are rigid, heavier and warmer in appearance. PET felt absorbs sound directly through its depth; wood slats are largely reflective and only perform acoustically once installed over a cavity with an absorbent backing. PET felt does not swell or delaminate when damp.
Recycled PET Felt vs Fibreglass and Mineral Wool Absorbers
Fibreglass and mineral wool reach high absorption coefficients, and mineral wool can be non-combustible, but they must be wrapped, faced or boxed and are usually handled with gloves and respiratory protection. Recycled PET felt panels are self-finished, cut with a blade or scissors, decorative in their own right, and recyclable where facilities accept them.
Recycled PET Felt vs Acoustic Foam Panels
Acoustic foam is inexpensive and quick to mount, but polyurethane foam typically performs poorly in fire tests, can crumble with age, and is not recyclable. Recycled PET felt panels cost more, hold their shape, have a reaction-to-fire classification pending supplier test documentation, and are recyclable where facilities accept the material.
